A couple of weeks ago I met a couple from Fort Saskatchewan at church. Donald is a teacher for music at the Lahore American School, while Louise is actually not working, but quite involved in other activities.
It is quite strange – I guess – to meet people I used to live so close by to in the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Lahore. However, Donald and Louise took me to the International Club quite a bit and I got some good breaks from the monotonous Pakistani culture. Last Saturday, I could even join a day trip organized by the board of the American School. We visited Shalimar Garden – a huge and impressive park set by the Moguls – and afterwards we had lunch at the Avari Hotel, the only place in all of Lahore that serves food during Ramadan.
Obviously, I met a lot of Americans that day, which was very interesting for a change. There are some teachers who take their entire families with them. However, most of them do not get to know Pakistan at all, since they spend their time either in their highly secured homes, in the American school or in the International Club. Usually, they are quite shocked, when I tell about my experiences with the poor...
